About Me

Dr. Vaughan is a psychotherapist specializing in individual, couples and group therapy, and maintains a private practice in both Washington, DC. and the Vail Valley of Colorado. He works extensively with his co-therapist, Alice Faulkner (alicefaulknertherapy.com) conducting groups and couples therapy.

With over 22 years experience as a therapist, and as a graduate of both the University of Marlyand (MSW) and Smith College School of Social Work (PhD) specializing in psychodynamic psychotherapy, he maintains a private practice working with a broad spectrum of clients. Among his areas of expertise are relationships, work/life balance, sexuality, sports psychology, PTSD, anxiety and depression. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Smith College School of Social Work.

In addition to being a prominent individual and group therapist, Dr. Vaughan has presented at National conferences and to general audiences speaking on the topics of mind/body health, group composition and process and human sexuality. More recently, Dr. Vaughan has begun integrating the impact of the existential threat of climate collapse, COVID-19, and political divides on individuals and communities into his clinical work. 

Dr. Vaughan is an interactive, solution-focused therapist. His therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. He integrates complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client. With compassion and understanding, He works with each individual to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing.

In addition, Dr. Vaughan is an avid amateur endurance multisport enthusiast, skier and knitter. He has worked extensively with individuals who also participate in endurance sports to maximize the psychological benefits for the races as well as the to themselves.
